Predators and Prey

Joe Manna · January 21, 2011 ·

I know this world is more than a zero-sum game, but you can’t deny the fact a minority of predators consume the majority, their prey. As a friend once said in a separate conversation with me, “it’s not a world of sharks – eat or be eaten,” but I politely disagree. We are all givers and receivers on some level throughout our lives.

To solidify this metaphor, I’ve come up with a list.

Predators Prey
Entertainers Entertained
Doers Watchers
Observers Drifters
Have Want
Made Paid
Producers Actors
Pimps Hoes
Strippers Customers
Movers Shaker
Dealer Dealt
Confident Insecure
Expertise Experience
Leadership Talent
Controlling Controlled
Murderer Victim
Publisher Reader
Commentator Commenter

See a recurring theme here?

If you want to become a predator, you need to stop being prey. Prey to yourself, prey to your own expectations, prey to others’ expectations and experiences.

Wow. Do something unique. Do something dangerous. Do something risky. After all, inventors are not known for mediocrity. Push yourself even when others are complacent. It’s how you get noticed. It’s how you notice others.

The ‘50s had the industrial revolution. Now we have the social media revolution. Write history. Be historic.

Don’t be prey; be a predator.
